There are a number of home remedies for acne scars, though usually the best way is to prevent the scars from happening or lessening their impact and appearance as they are forming. Quite often with acne that is very severe, people see dermatologists and get special skin care products, even antibiotics to get rid of the acne outbreaks and lessen their impact. However, you should note that acne itself is not curable, though reducing the number of outbreaks can be prevented to some degree.
The remedies that may people like to use are over the counter cleansers and tonics, but realistically many of these aggravate the acne further and do nothing to treat the infections, resulting in scarring anyway. How much scarring a person suffers is down to many factors such as age, skin tone, skin elasticity, personal health, smoking, hydration and other things. However, if you have acne scars you can use a number of good remedies at home with ingredients that are inexpensive and ones that you might already have sitting in your kitchen cupboards. These include:
- Lemon or lime juice – freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice when applied to your scars with a sterile cotton ball or swab and allowed to remain for up to fifteen minutes and then rinsed thoroughly with water, can help them to heal better, fade and will make them initially less noticeable due to the bleaching ability of the juice
-
Sliced tomatoes – placing these on the scars can assist in healing the skin as the tomatoes are known for their antioxidant properties and vitamin A, which is commonly used for treating acne and acne scarring
-
Olive oil – moisturizes the skin, fading the acne scarring away when it is massaged into the damaged skin, but only after the acne scarring appears
-
Homemade face masks – reduces the appearance of scars by nourishing the skin, moisturizing it and killing off any remaining bacteria and infections; and the best one is a combination of 1 tablespoon each of oatmeal, yogurt and sour cream with two drops of freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice, applied to the entire affected area for about fifteen minutes before being rinsed off with fresh water
-
Ice cubes – reduces scarring appearance by closing the pores, evening the skin’s texture and soothing the infected skin, but this is only temporary
-
Rosewater and sandalwood – combined together to make a paste, this mask can be worn overnight when covered with a cloth or bandage, washed off thoroughly with water the following morning and sooths the skin, cools the infected area and makes the skin smoother looking and feeling
